PostSubject: Tuning Questions   February 17th 2011, 1:29 pm

Hi I'm new to this forum and was invited by a few friends. None the less here is the point

I would really like to learn the computer and tuning side of these cars. I have vast experience in software engineering and would like to translate that to cars. If i i can even get a good starting point on where to go that would be fantastic. If someone is willing to help me i am not against a trade or something. I can build websites or one off software if you would like or pretty much anything else we can figure something out.

    Thanks

There are a lot of resources, my favorite site is EFI101.com they offer schools and have a lot of info involving tuning, tuning equipment and there are a lot of programmers on there that get very in depth about how the electronics work and everything. There is many different aspects in tuning electronics, there are some insanely smart guys on there that have built systems for super cars that can monitor everything going on and adjust for it in each cylinder. I would start there as you should be able to learn more than most will ever comprehend but there is also enough well informed people that should be able to answer even the toughest questions.

There are a lot of guys on here who can help you out with specific tuning questions and even on some of the systems but I think overall its very hard for any of us to teach you everything about tuning especially on a broad basis. There are so many systems, setup and different configurations I wouldn't know where to start. I enjoy the tuning side more than anything and would be happy to help if I can, however I need to have some idea what type of tuning you are looking at, and then go from there. If you begin to study and then jump back on here with questions I think with the guys on here we should be able to get you an answer. Tuning is a very broad world with a lot to learn, but when you break it down its really not that hard once you get the basics down and have some electrical knowledge.

I would love to tune my 91 Camaro. i love the car, but i do know it is obd1 which is limited. Overall i would just like to be able to tune most any car and do fuel maps etc. Thank you for the help and the website that should get me going. If anyone has specific advice like a piece of software that works well or hardware that would be great.

by the way i have 2 91 Camaros. One is a street cruiser that i just bought this summer. The other i am working into turning into a race car. both will eventually have LS motors in them. I do plan on going a little over the top, but i think these are a good platform for just about anything, and I like the body style.

    Thanks

Get a megasquirt. They have all the stuff you need to tune, and its suppose to be really easy to learn. I believe they do a TBI chevy truck step by step just to show what needs to be done. http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_articles/how_to_megasquirt_your_chevy_smallblock_v8_v6.htm If you had obd II I would suggest just getting a flash device, but you can't go wrong with meqasquirt.
