Have been waiting for the GREEN light to choose our track days for the year as OPI has first choice on weekends and I finally received an email. Our track days will be July 7th and 8th along with August 18th. Pricing is still up in the air as we have had issues in the past with people not showing, but I imagine it will be the same as long as our rental and insurance didnt go up.

PostSubject: New clutch? Maybe?   January 25th 2010, 1:10 am

So currently my tranny is out of my car and getting fixed. It's an 02 wrx just shy of 80k miles. I'm want to know if I should change my clutch now since the tranny is out anyways, or if I should wait till the clutch starts slipping?
So far, I'm leaning towards just changing it now and saving myself the hasle later.
    Any comments?

So I am going to change the clutch now before I put the tranny back in. Now I just have a question of should I get just a clutch pad, or a whole clutch kit?
Also, I'm looking at putting an STi TMIC on (which I already have), an aftermarket turbo back exhaust (this I don't have and don't know when I will get it. just when ever I find what I'm looking for and can afford it), and after both of these have been done, a stage 2 tune. So after I eventually do these things, will I need a stronger clutch than a stock? And if so, should I get it now, or wait till I finnish the mods?
    Thanks for all future input!

Just get a clutch kit. The tranny is off, might as well replace the flywheel too(if that is what you are talking about comes in the kit). save yourself a pull in the future. And I would say just get a stronger clutch now anyways. Definitely not a "race" clutch, but at least a track/street. Look at it this way, pay for a clutch now, then need a new one later, or just upgrade now and know it will handle the power you will make down the road.

YOu shouldn't have to change the flywheel just take it to clutchmaster's and have it resurfaced, this needs to be done any time you change clutches. From the sounds of it you may benefit from upgrading to a more sporty clutch. Don't go too crazy but if you can get an Exedy clutch I would do that. I had the stage 2 clutch and it held up to 400hp and lots of clutch kicks in my car. But even the stage 1 Exedy would be plenty. Or take the old assembly in to Clutch master and have them set you up with a new setup. You can measure the factory one if you want to save some money and see if you really need a new clutch. But with 80K i would think its worth doing.

If it were me> id change it wile the tranny was out. 80k is getting pretty close to needing a new one anyways. id upgrade to a stage one if possible also. They are about the same price as a stocke one.
