Looks like Matt Walsh and I are going to get my brakes working here in the next couple weeks. Sure will be nice to be able to stop. I guess we are going to put an STI mastercylinder / brakebooster in. Hopefully things will go well.

Hey Mike.... it might end up being a few more weeks on this. I'm still putting together Matt R. turbo engine.... and I'm trying to get my furnace fully installed and operational for obvious reasons. Not brushing you off..... you know how things pile up.

I have all the time in the world Matt, no biggie. Might not re-route the entire car, just make some necessary modifications.

No kidding. But hey... if you'd rather have master Scoobie builder Brandon Rowlett perform his signiture brake upgrade to your car... I understand. I won't hold it against you.

Matt, you are silly. Whenever you are ready let me know. I was also wondering if we could do this at my place as my car no longer has plates and dont want to risk a ticket. I usually do not re-license my car till January or February.

That's fine.... if that's the case then I won't have to get Matt's car done to do it. Which means..... I can probably start on that with you next week.

The only thing I hate about working off site.... is all the tools you forget to bring with you.... lol

I have a very good selection of tools, so that should not be a problem. All we are going to need is a brake line bender and line ends I believe. I guess you would know better than I what we are going to need.

I need to learn more about brakes. What's the major differances from DRUMS to SOLID DISKS to VENTILATED DISKS to DRILLED Ventilated Disks to Composite Ceramic...and why are brembos so good?

All I have left on the Chevelle is getting the rear quarter panel panels assembled and put in, then the rest is bolt on stuff.

I will contact you when I am ready Matt.

right on dude. I got Matt Rucksteads turbo Civic build done. fired it up and burned in the rings the other day. So I'm running out of things to do soon. I have a D16A1 to put rod bearings into and get it ready for my civic. And over Christmas my Dad gave me a scoobie 2.5L long block to go through and put head gaskets and such into and seal it up. Sounds like it was having cooling fan issues and got a little hot. Hopefully rods and cyl's are ok and it just can slip on by with head gaskets and maybe heads/block shaved.
So let me know when you're ready and I'll work you in man.

Well Matt and I FINALLY got the STI brake booster/master cylinder conversion done yesterday. Went real smooth actually. The STI is just a little bigger than the RS and almost did not fit. Got her all in and now I just need some good weather to try them out.

sp did you gravity bleed and then pump/bleed the whole system? or do you have a pressure bleeder?

We did it with a pressure bleeder and then also did the standard pump/bleed.

Just went out for a small test drive and my brakes are pretty much the same. Sad Dont know what the deal is. Matt, how can I tell if the check valve is bad?

i still think you dont have enough volume of fluid to fully compress your 28 piston calipers mikey...

Since I do not have the ABS system in my car any longer I am wondering if I remove the combination valves and just directly connect them with hardline if that would solve the problem. Pretty much done EVERYTHING else.

LOL!!!!! Very Happy heck he's got about half as many caliper pistons as he does valves. lol just imagine if he had that many pistons with spark plugs! bounce

That master cylinder was made to run those calipers though.... I'm just not sure how Subaru does there proportioning within the ABS unit. And since the ABS assy is hydraulically still hooked up and all the proportioning valves are located within who's to know what that freakin ABS unit is up to sitting there with no control unit to run it anymore right Mike?

I say take that whole ABS unit out and hook the lines direct to master cyl and use a proportioning valve for the rear calipers like this knob style one here. http://www.wilwood.com/MasterCylinderValves.aspx

that would probably do the trick, hopefully. nothing worse than spending your whole life trying to go as fast as possible, because eventually you'll have to stop...

Now my question is, do we need something for the front or will the master cylinder drive them? Also, do we need 2 of the valve assemblies? I noticed it says that there is only a single in/out on them.

i beleive you would have only a single outlet for the front brakes, and a single outlet for the rear brakes. ive hand fabbed a couple complete brake systems and i always "t"' the line for the front and a line for the back, never experienced any issues doing it that way, but when you through an abs computer in the mix it gets alittle more complex.

We are just going to put a junction box for both the front and rear and use the stock proportioning valve. I did not realize it was seperate from the ABS, but it is mounted on the passenger strut tower. Should be a pretty easy conversion.

If I do not have brakes after this, I guess it is time to replace seals in the calipers.
