im not really familiar with the dsm transfer cases, are they full mechanical couplers or hydraulic torque couplers like a nissan?

depends on the make. usually use atf on the newer stuff.

i guess they are full mechanical transferers (if that is even a word?) so i don't see where using an aftermarket fluid such as full synthetic would hurt it any...

skim is better, less viscosity. easier to clean up a spill too.
